Requirements Traceability Matrix

CATEGORY: Project Management
CLASS: Scope Management

The final output of the Collect Requirements Process, the term is associated with creating a research path about a particular project requirement. This path can include where the requirement originated from and then follow its evolution through the project to its final completion. In order to do the best traceability job possible, a software information tool such as a database or spreadsheet is recommended. In order for this to work properly, the requirement should be given a code or an internally recognized ID so that it can be tracked throughout the project information system.
